John Bucklow

I am drawn to uncertainty and to paradox, to thought experiments, to the limits of language, to what I understand of physics and its relationship to certain perceptual anomalies that haunt me. My art operates at these boundaries and at the thresholds they describe. The equivocal and conjectural images that this creates nearly always derive from everyday encounters with ordinary objects and spaces that have somehow found themselves in what I think of as the subjunctive sublime, a conditional state where the momentous and the revelatory are yet to happen but have not. With their frissons of random encounter, latent fragility and the paradoxical awareness that to reveal also threatens to diminish, they  exist on the edge of a place where the momentous and the revelatory are suspended forever, and always yet to happen.

I studied Painting, Sculpture, and Printmaking at Camberwell College of Art in London and have worked in product design, marketing, international trade, and publishing. I now focus on building my art practice. I am author of Navigator (photography) published in UK by Greenwich Exchange and have exhibited my photography and multimedia art in UK, Europe and New Zealand. An exhibitor at the founding exhibition of the [British] Computer Art Society my work since has included performance, dance, video, motion graphics, photography, installation, sculpture, and writing. My work is represented in private collections and at the V&A in London.
